The Orlando Alumnae Chapter is very pleased to present the registration form/information for the Saturday, Feb 22, 2020 Lambda Day.  We are honored to have this opportunity to welcome all of the Lambda sisters to the Central Florida Area and the Rollins College campus in Winter Park, FL.  Our hope is that once you read about our featured speakers and breakout sessions that many of you will also be excited and take advantage of the ‘early bird’ registration period.

  • Early Bird Pricing: $28 (postmarked by January 1, 2020)

  • Regular: $35 (postmarked January 2 - February 1, 2020)

  • Day of Event: $40 (*Those registering the day of should plan to bring a lunch & drink - it is possible there will be unclaimed meals but there is no guarantee.)

Please remember, registration is “confirmed” once the registration check is received.

  • Ways to provide payment, which may be done on an ‘individual’ or ‘group’ bases (if a group, please provide a list of the sisters names and we will match them with the registration record):

    • Personal Check – no fee, provided by a chapter member or parent of a chapter member

    • Money Order – purchased for a small fee at local check cashing locations, post office, and some convenience stores

    • Cashier Check – purchased for a small fee at a local bank

Highlights of Lambda Day 2020

Keynote Speakers:

  • Kimberly Philips, SAI Philanthropies, Inc - The charitable arm of SAI is so important to what we do it has its own song in the red book! Learn about all Philanthropies offers to our sisterhood and how far we have come since supporting our first project, the Mac Dowel Colony. Every sister plays a part in the success of SAI Philanthropies, Inc. - We will discuss how you can support and benefit from the philanthropic endeavors of our Fraternity. Do you have something you have always wanted to know about Philanthropies? Email your questions to phil.treasurer@sai-national.org to make sure it is answered during the session.

    • Kimberly Philips was initiated into Eta Omicron Chapter at The University of Nevada, Reno in the Spring of 1998, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Accounting. She also holds a Master’s of Business Administration from UNR and earned her CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) designation in 2016. She has held several leadership positions in both her collegiate and alumnae chapters, having the opportunity to be involved in many alumnae chapters across the country. She has served in the role of Treasurer of SAI Philanthropies, Inc. from 2006-2012 and 2015-2018. She is a recipient of the Scholastic Award, Collegiate Honor Award, Sword of Honor, Rose of Honor, and Wreath of Achievement. Professionally, Kimberly has spent the last 14 years with PSAV at various hotels across the country. She is currently employed as the Director of Sales, Global Accounts at PSAV. She oversees corporate accounts primarily in the technology, banking and healthcare sectors. Kimberly lives in Las Vegas, NV with her husband and two sons and is affiliated with the Las Vegas Alumnae Chapter.

  • Dr. Mary Palmer, University of Central Florida Professor Emerita and former College of Education Dean - Is it true that giving your "time, talent, and treasure" gives back to you? When bombarded with requests...how do you decide where to invest?

    • Dr. Palmer has taught in pre-kindergarten through grade twelve schools, as well as colleges, universities, and community settings throughout the world. She is the delighted Grandma (aka, NaMa) of a brilliant toddler who loves to sing! As president of Mary Palmer & Associates, LLC, a consulting group in education and the arts, she assists schools and community organizations in transforming their practices through the arts. Dr. Palmer has served as senior author of multiple music textbook series published by Silver Burdett/Scott Foresman/Pearson. Her widespread teaching experiences are evident in the global and practical perspective she brings to her work. As founder of the Florida Alliance for Arts Education and a board member for numerous local, state and national organizations, she is a tireless advocate for arts education in schools and communities. Palmer hold’s Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees from the University of Illinois. Her most recent publication, Teaching Through the ARTS: WRITING (Arts Journey Press, 2014) written with Susan Rosoff, provides materials and strategies for making the arts a central avenue for learning across the curriculum.

Breakout Sessions:

  • Ring It! An Introduction to Handbells and Handchimes

    • Come enjoy a session on ringing handbells and handchimes - no experience needed. This session will provide an overview of this art form and how these instruments are a great introduction to instrumental music for people of all ages. By the end of the session, we will ring and SAI song or two - instant instrumental success!

    • Presented by Kathryn Jurado, VPR Tampa Alumnae Chapter; Treasurer, Area 4 Handbell Musicians of America

  • Vocal Health

    • A brief overview and visual demonstration - through use of MRI and larygoscope videos - of the vocal mechanism as it relates to singing. Take a look at healthy vocal production as well as common vocal damage, causes, and precautions.

    • Presented by Ashley Peters Lewis, MME, Orlando Alumnae Chapter

  • Music Therapy

    • Learn about music therapy as a profession from the topics of education, training, and clinical work with a variety of populations and settings from a music therapist and music therapy students. Understand music therapy as a career, learn how to find and work with music therapists in your community, and discuss possible volunteer and music therapy advocacy opportunities for your chapters.
